Boomers Help send Chris Singleton to Buffalo, NY
In the wake of yet another racially motivated killing of innocent people in a Buffalo, NY local grocery store on May 14, 2022 Joanna Harrison, Content Strategist at BoomTownROI.com reached out to see what if anything we as a company could do for the children in the community affected by this senseless act of violence. She recalled how the #CharlestonStrong community rallied around victims’ families after the Charleston, SC AME church shooting & she wished we could do something similar for Buffalo.
So she contacted one of the keynote speakers from our annual user conference Unite 2021 Chris Singleton to see how we could perhaps share his story with the students in Buffalo and after speaking with his team, she posted the following on the BoomTown internal bulletin board (SLACK):
“You might recall Chris Singleton who shared his powerful message of love and resilience in the face of hate after losing his mother in the Mother Emanuel AME shooting in our neighborhood June 17, 2015. The horrific tragedy in Buffalo, NY last weekend, hits close to home for all of us in Charleston, SC, but particularly for Chris. He will be visiting several schools in Buffalo, NY next week to share his message with students, some of whom lost family members in the recent attack. He was moved, without hesitation, to help this community heal even though the schools do not have the funds to cover any expenses. This is where BoomTownLOVE comes in! We want to help Buffalo heal, and we think getting Chris up there to share his firsthand experience with these young people is the most impactful thing we can do. If you would like to contribute to this effort, please Venmo @BoomTownLOVE they will match up to $1,000 of donations! #ChooseLove #BuffaloStrong”
Boomers quickly rallied around this call to action and raised 2337.00 in less than 3 days.
Jaycie Mariotti, Sr. Manager, Strategic Partnerships & Industry Relations at BoomTown spoke with him that same day, “Chris wanted to fill me in personally on what he's doing in Buffalo so that I could tell you all he said that the more money he raises, the more elementary schools he's going to be able to visit to share his story and provide them with his books. I told him how incredible that is and that if there's anything BoomTown loves, it's rallying around a cause to help change a life. He is so thankful for our partnership and told me to give his love to his BoomTown family!” #ThisIsBoomTown
